The State Department has approved Saudi Arabia’s request to buy up to $650 million worth of air-to-air missiles and related equipment from Raytheon, the former employer of US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) informed Congress on Thursday, as required by law, that the proposed sale “will support US foreign policy and national security” by “helping to improve the security of a friendly country that continues to be an important force for political and economic progress in the Middle East.”
New: US approved a $650 million sale of air-to-air missiles to Saudi Arabia.
The AMRAAM missiles have been “instrumental in intercepting persistent [drone] attacks that have put US forces at risk and threatened the more than 70,000 US citizens” in KSA, US State Department says.
