Lewis Capaldi took home four awards — including songwriter of the year and song of the year — at the 2021 ASCAP London Awards, the performing rights organization announced Tuesday (Oct. 19).
Capaldi’s hit ballads “Someone You Loved” and “Before You Go” earned him the title of songwriter of the year. “Someone You Loved” received awards in two categories: song of the year and top streaming song. “Before You Go” was selected as a Hot 100 song awardee.
Songwriter Pete Glenister was recognized for his co-writing credits on J Balvin and Black Eyed Peas’ collab “Ritmo,” which was named top Hot Dance/Electronic song and a Hot 100 awardee.
MNEK, Neave Applebaum, Robert Harvey, Lewis Thompson and Leo Kalyan were honored for co-writing MNEK’s “Head & Heart” featuring Joel Corry, which was named a winning Hot Dance/Electronic song.
Other honorees include songwriter Conor Blake Manning for co-writing Becky Hill’s “Lose Control” and songwriter Steve Mac and Bastille’s Dan Smith for penning Marshmello’s “Happier.” Both songs won Hot Dance/Electronic song awards.
In film and television, composer Daniel Pemberton and his score on Birds of Prey earned top box office film of the year. Netflix’s The Crown and its composer Martin Phipps was awarded top streaming series and film.
