Jameson Rodgers and featured artist Luke Combs each add to their runs of consecutive career-opening No. 1s on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, as “Cold Beer Calling My Name” ascends to the top of the list dated Oct. 9. The single increased by 12% to 30.9 million impressions in the week ending Oct. 3, according to MRC Data.
The 33-year-old Rodgers, from Batesville, Miss., banks his second career-opening Country Airplay leader, after his debut entry “Some Girls” led for a week in October 2020.
“I moved to Nashville to write songs, hoping that one day I could write a hit for myself,” Rodgers tells Billboard. “A dream came true for me this week. I can’t believe this is my second No. 1 song.”
“Beer,” which Rodgers wrote with Hunter Phelps, Brett Tyler and Alysa Vanderheym, is from his debut LP, Bet You’re From a Small Town, which arrived at No. 23 with 7,000 equivalent album units on the Oct. 2-dated Top Country Albums chart. (“Some Girls” is on the set, after it was first released on his 2018 self-titled EP.)
As for Combs, he earns his record-extending 12th career-starting Country Airplay No. 1 (counting properly promoted singles). He first led with “Hurricane,” for two weeks beginning in May 2017, and most recently reigned for six weeks starting in June with “Forever After All.”
On the airplay-, sales- and streaming-based Hot Country Songs chart, “Beer” holds at its No. 3 high. It drew 7 million U.S. streams and sold 1,800 downloads in the week ending Sept. 30.

It’s his 13th top 10, following, as noted above, 12 No. 1s. On Hot Country Songs, the track climbs 15-12, with 5.4 million streams (up 8%) and 1,900 sold (up 6%).

Each of the three songs topped Country Airplay, where Brice has notched seven No. 1s.
Brice’s 10 Hot Country Songs top 10s includes one leader: “A Woman Like You,” for a week in April 2012.
