The war in Afghanistan has ended, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has said, declaring those who keep fighting against the group the enemies of the country and the Afghan people. The announcement was made during Mujahid’s press conference, which was held in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Monday. The newly appointed German ambassador to China and close ally and senior foreign policy adviser to Chancellor Angela Merkel, Jan Hecker, has died at the age of 54, the Federal Foreign Office announced. “It is with deep sadness and dismay that we learned of the sudden death of the German Ambassador to China,” the Federal Foreign Office said in a brief statement on its website. Police have arrested Tetsuo Urata on suspicion of stealing 730 pieces of women’s underwear from coin laundries, after a 21-year-old college student alerted authorities that six pairs of her underwear had disappeared. With nearly half its population still under lockdown, the Australian government has taken delivery of its first shipment of Pfizer Covid doses on Monday as part of a swap deal with the UK to help bolster its vaccination campaign.
